Report 2 (Nov. 13)
The University of Georgia (UGA) is conducting its 26th annual Heifer Evaluation and Reproductive Development (HERD) Program at Tifton for registered and commercial heifers born Sept. 1-Nov. 30, 2023.

Weights were recorded Nov. 13, and the 155 heifers weighed an average of 859 lb. Their average ADG was 2.94 lb. and average WDA was 2.13 lb. Pelvic measurements were collected and heifers were assigned a reproductive tract score (RTS). They were also given a docility score.

Report 3 (Dec. 17)
Weights were collected for report 3 Dec. 13., at which time the 154 heifers weighed an average of 934 lb. Their average ADG was 2.74 lb., with an average WDA of 2.16 lb.

The heifers are evaluated on performance, reproductive traits and disposition. They are being fed a ration to gain 1.5-1.75 lb. per day, consisting of hay plus a supplement designed for optimum growth and development. The heifers were bred by artificial insemination (AI) on Dec. 16 to Baldridge Command C036 or KCF Bennett Constitution, and were scheduled to be exposed to cleanup bulls until Feb. 11.

Pregnancy ultrasounds will be conducted March 12 to determine which heifers are pregnant by AI, and Report 4 will be issued at that time. The 26th Tifton HERD sale is set to be hosted April 22.

The evaluation center is open for visitors on weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information contact Jason Duggin at 706-728-4354, or visit the test website.
