Early Bird Gets the Worm

Getting a head start on your marketing efforts can pay dividends.

The alarm never goes off. For whatever reason, when that happens in the Reiman household, a brief bit of chaos ensues.

“Wake up! We’re late!” tends to inspire very quick action, with kids grabbing clothes, brushing their teeth and quickly combing their hair.
We have found, unfortunately by experience, that we can condense a usual 40-minute morning routine into about 14 minutes.

It’s doable, but not ideal.

That’s the same phrase I’d use for rushed marketing efforts for your ranch: it’s doable, but not ideal.

We know there’s a lot out of your control, from weather interfering with picture day to calving season calamities; and we try to remain flexible. Most of our partners reserve ads before they have the supporting materials ready to roll. If you miss a print deadline, we can supplement with digital options. We often turn around website updates in less than 48 hours.

However, just because we can do it in a hurry doesn’t mean that should become standard operating procedure.

The earlier you start implementing a sale-specific promotional plan, the better — and not just because it makes our days less stressful.

Here are some of the advantages to starting early:

  1. You’ll get a better product when you give our team time to work their magic. There’s never a guarantee you’ll love your ad on the very first draft, but it’s a lot more likely when our graphic artists can work on fresh designs and creative campaigns. Our advertising coordinators will be able to spend more time creating a customized option when they aren’t working on same-day deadlines.
  2. You won’t have to rush through the review process. Marketing materials go through an extensive internal review before we send it to your inbox for a final sign-off. Rushing through proofing invites more opportunities to miss important details, and also puts stress on you to review it as soon as you see it.
  3. You can secure ad placements that have limited inventory. When there are only so many slots available, the old adage is true, “The early bird gets the worm.” For example, if you want to have your sale book or ranch ad featured on the homepage of Angus.org during peak sale season, you have to book several months in advance. Other products are based on the availability of our team, such as telling your ranch story through video. If we already have all corners of the United States covered when you want to plan a shoot, you might have to settle for inconvenient dates.
  4. You’ll be less stressed, knowing we have you covered. Unlike the other parts of production that are based on either the biological clock of the animals or the mercy of Mother Nature, we can work to customize your marketing plan on a “rainy day” or any bit of downtime. Get that completed before all of the other time-sensitive tasks take your attention. Then, as we get closer to sale day, we can just work that plan.

To get a personalized to-do list to jump-start your promotion, use our Sale Day Calculator. Just enter your sale date, and you’ll get a to-do list with dates assigned to specific tasks, ranging from registration to booking your advertising.

With a little advanced effort, you’ll avoid the heart-racing sensation of waking up to the feeling that you’re running late.
