A group of ambitious young cattlemen and women from across the United States were awarded scholarships from the Angus Foundation at the 2024 National Junior Angus Show (NJAS) in Madison, Wis.

“[The Angus Foundation scholarship] is supporting me in my next steps in life,” says Rosalind Kidwell, recipient of the Gary Brost Leaders Engaged in Angus Development (LEAD) Award and Angus/Talon Youth Educational Learning Program Undergraduate Scholarship.

Kidwell plans to attend Purdue University this fall, majoring in biochemistry with a minor in animal science. 

“You don’t realize how much college costs until you start adding it up,” she adds. “The Angus Foundation scholarships truly offset that cost, especially with all these gracious donors. It makes me happy to be a part of the Association and to have these people surrounding me.”

Since 1998, The Angus Foundation has awarded more than $4.9 million in undergraduate and graduate scholarships.

“The donors who provide scholarship opportunities for Angus youth are committed to investing in our future industry leaders,” says Jaclyn Boester, Angus Foundation executive director. “We’re proud to assist these outstanding students and grateful to our supporters who make it possible.” 

A five-member committee consisting of industry experts, Angus Foundation board members, Angus breeders and National Junior Angus Association (NJAA) board members evaluates the applications. The committee considers involvement, participation, leadership, service, career goals and other criteria set forth in the scholarships’ fund agreements.

“They are building up the future leaders of our industry and of the world. I think it is a great thing that we have them,” Kidwell says. “A huge thank you to the Foundation. I hope that in the future I can have the means to donate to the Foundation and also help support kids like me who are wanting to make a difference and impact in the agriculture industry.”
