If this barn could talk,
just think, the stories it could tell.”
In the Angus Roll of Victory (ROV) female grand drive at the 2025 National Western Stock Show (NWSS), the crowd was gathered with bated breath to watch a historical moment. While the champ slap was highly anticipated, the Denver crowd also knew they were watching the last show in the historic building on “the Hill.”
Jake Scott, Gordon, Neb., took his time on the mic to celebrate all that’s happened in the Colorado facility.
“I just think back to my own experiences, and it brings back a lot of memories for me. But there’s so many of you in this arena right now and that are showing cattle today who have so many rich memories of this place,” he said. “I can’t tell you what an honor it is to be asked to judge a show anytime, but especially at a moment like this.”

In the many years when cattlemen have gathered to compete and showcase their genetics, the historic facility has seen all types and kinds of livestock.
“Think about how many trends we’ve seen come and go through this arena — probably some little bitty, small-frame cattle; probably some great big cattle. We all look at those now and kind of snick and make fun of it and think about how we’re better,” Gordon said. “But someday, somebody will be looking back at us and thinking about whatever trend we’re in right now and how we can do it better.”
Though the building is being replaced, the emphasis on quality and the camaraderie that comes with the NWSS are sure to be found in the new barn for many years to come.
