AMERICAN ANGUS ASSOCIATION - THE BUSINESS BREED

AUXILIARY NOTES

Modern Innovation to Rich History

Auld Lang Syne. These three words meaning “old,” “long” and “since” in Scots combine to form a phrase that translates as “time gone by” or “old times sake.”

February 20, 2025

It could be said a song that was written in Scotland that rings in the new year, the opportunity for new ideas and new innovations is paying homage to the traditions of time gone by.

George Grant was the first to bring Angus cattle to the plains of Kansas in 1873 from Scotland. The American Angus Auxiliary, established in 1952, has a long history steeped in tradition. In 1978 Certified Angus Beef was created. While these three organizations are now a part of our rich history and traditions, at the time of conception these were considered modern innovations.

Relying on our faith in new technologies can be both scary and exciting at the same time. We as an organization should remain open-minded and look for chances to create something more than we can even imagine.

The American Angus Auxiliary awards scholarships every year to young adults who will someday turn their innovations and use of technology into traditions for future generations of Auxiliary members.

As we enter 2025, I would like to thank everyone who both donated and purchased from our Full Circle Online Auction. We will be hosting our spring meeting on April 13, 2025. As many of you know, we closed the Angus Gift Barn this past year, and as with the theme of this letter, we will be looking for new, innovative ideas to replace a substantial form of fundraising for our organization.

I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming show and events. Please, as always, feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have.
