Annual Evaluation Updates on the Horizon
Data must be submitted by Friday, May 16, to be included in the Fall 2025 Sire Evaluation Report
May 12, 2025
This spring, alongside the routine annual updates of economic assumptions, the American Angus Association® and Angus Genetics, Inc. (AGI®) will be releasing full production Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs) for Functional Longevity (FL), Teat Size (Teat) and Udder Suspension (UDDR) on May 23.
At the same time, updates will be released to Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M) to account for the inclusion of FL, Teat and UDDR in the Dollar Value Index. As a result of the update, Combined Value ($C), which includes $M as part of its makeup, will also see adjustments. Producers should not expect to see a large re-ranking of current $Value scores, but some changes will exist.
AGI® will also be implementing updated genetic variance components (i.e. heritability) to the Heifer Pregnancy EPD. In addition, adjustments to the feed efficiency model used to measure feed intake (i.e. contemporary group parameters and variance components) will be updated to more accurately describe the traits.
Also happening on May 23, the Fall 2025 Sire Evaluation Report will be released. The deadline to submit data to be included in the report is Friday, May 16. Breeders can reach out to the Member Services team with any questions about the data deadline.
More information will be available as we near the Friday, May 23, update. Read more about the development of the FL, Teat & UDDR EPDs in the By the Numbers column in this month’s Angus Journal.
