Potential Carrier Report

AAA Login users can access an interactive tool to generate a report of owned animals and their AM status based on the AM test results received to date. From the AAA Login menu, go to the DNA > Genetic Condition Tools section and click on the "Potential Carrier Report" menu option.

Report Abnormal Calves

Reporting abnormal calves can help researchers and the American Angus Association identify genetic conditions early.

Pursuant to Rule 305 of the Association’s Rules, set forth below are separate listings of animals, identified by registration numbers and names, which (1) have been determined to be carriers of those genetic conditions recognized by the American Angus Association, (2) have been determined to possess those genetic factors recognized by the Association, and (3) have been identified as being free of a specific genetic condition or all conditions.

Genetic Conditions Policies

Genetic abnormalities are a reality for any living organism, and the understanding of these conditions continues to evolve with scientific advancements.

Leading geneticists in the bovine academic community have increasingly observed that all breeds have hundreds of mutations in their genome. The American Angus Association's approach to genetic conditions reflects the likelihood that the discovery of such mutations will continue in the future and at a pace accelerated by new scientific tools.

The Association relies on sound scientific principles to determine policy governing genetic conditions. Through strategic DNA testing and sound management, breeders may successfully manage these issues in a way that’s beneficial to the breed and commercial customers.

Genetic Defects and Genetic Factors
The abnormalities listed above are considered pathological (disease) conditions of genetic origin. These “genetic defects” include an impairment of health or a condition of abnormal function due to an abnormal or mutated gene.

Additional information and the complete American Angus Association Genetic Defect Policy is presented in the Breeder’s Reference Guide.
