CARRIEROsteopetrosis (OS)

What is Osteopetrosis (OS)? Osteopetrosis, more commonly known as Marble Bone disease, is a genetic condition in the Angus population and is inherited as a simple recessive. Affected calves are born dead or die shortly after birth, usually 10 to 30 days premature. The body can be small, and a shortened (undershot) lower jaw with impacted molars may be present. Bones are solid and do not have a normal bone marrow cavity, making them brittle and easily shattered.
